CRISPERANTO: THE QUENTIN CRISP ARCHIVES

QUENTIN CRISP IN BLACK AND WHITE
Photographs by Martin Fishman (1937 - 2010)

VIGNETTE SIX

The Winter series. Despite the coldness of winter and the discomfort it gave Quentin, he was pleased to traipse the wilds of Manhattan with Marty to capture these precious shots in the snow and are very reminiscent of Sting’s video “An Englishman in New York” (also title of the 2009 pseudo-biopic starring John Hurt). Dressed for the cold, Quentin’s beauty shines with the snow’s brightness—even while posing at the local produce stand. The taxi image brings back to life his quote about riding in the back seat untethered, “Life to be sure is not that much to lose, but if you think it is fasten your seatbelt!”
